A Surrogacy journey is very delicate. Creating high-quality of embryos is the first step for intended parents. By using intended parents' eggs and donor eggs is very different. The journey would be 12 months to 18 months. Here is a timeline for your reference.
1. Embryo Creation if applicable is 5 weeks to 3 months
Intended mother's eggs is about 5 weeks
- Embryo Creation (20 days): Egg Retrieval cycle is about 12 days counted from the intended mother's menstrual period on day one. The eggs will be fertilized in the lab on the egg retrieval date and cultured for 5-7 days to create embryos.
- PGS (2 weeks): The embryologist will retrieve cells from the embryos with biopsy for preimplantation genetic screening (PGS). The embryologist could distinguish the gender of the embryos and whether the embryos are normal or not by screening the chromosomes of the embryos. Typically the results come out in about 2 weeks.
Egg donor's eggs is about 3 months
- Egg donor screening (2 weeks): Once you are matched with an egg donor. Your egg donor is required to undergo a medical screening at your IVF clinic on her menstrual period day 2 or day 3. We expect the results to come out in about 2 weeks. Also a professional psychologist will evaluate her mentally and her commitment to this journey.
